All Week I Expect The Shabbat

All week I expect the Sabbath. The reason for this is because Shabbat has the commandment of Oneg Shabbat. The mitzvah of Oneg Shabbat includes many things, but the main thing for me is to stop life and stop the race and rest. On Shabbat, they sit in the bosom of the family, go to the synagogue to pray, wake up in the morning for prayer and do kiddush. Afterward, they go to rest and sleep, talking in between and rejoicing in the family, the children and the parents.

On Shabbat something magic happens that does not happen all week. Even if you were on vacation, and even if you are currently sitting on some beach looking at the sunset the feeling is not like on Shabbat. I think that because the sages warn against speaking of sand and the thought of sand on Shabbat, then the soul is cut off from all the pressures from all the thoughts and problems that bother us during the week.

t does not matter which ethnic group you are from, it does not matter where you live. Shabbat is a moment of quiet, calm and joy. One of the moments I like best on Shabbat is Kiddush on the eve of Shabbat, in which the whole family sings together Shalom Aleichem. The angels of peace are angels of the highest king of the Kings of the Holy One, blessed be He. It is a magical moment of love and joy and a connection to the Jewish tradition, that there is a creator to the world and he leads the world.

Many parents have difficulties during the week and will be available to their children. Therefore Shabbat is so unique that it is possible for children to be with parents, to receive attention & love. Thus, family unity in the Jewish home maintained in an ideal manner.

Many secular people see Shabbat as a limitation and pity for the religious people who need to keep it. But I think the opposite is the case. Secular Jews are miserable; they do not experience the Sabbath like religious people, who experience it and are completely cut off from the outside world. And so they are in total relaxation with joy and love with their family.

I recommend you if you are secular to try, regardless of religion, to try to disconnect yourself during the Shabbat from at least the factors that cause you pressure. Like the cell phone, the computer, the television and all the electronic means that squeeze and put into stress. Instead of being with the children in front of the screen, I recommend that you go out with them on a walk in the neighborhood, be with them at home, play some quiet game – or talk to them and have a good conversation. So that they will have moments with you that will be remembered as unique in which they feel they have good parents, supporters and lovers.
