The children should do whatever their own heart wants because all of the people in this world will turn back into ashes.

According to the Hebrew Bible or which Israelites was known as their Torah, the people of Israel are required to have several tzitzit strings in their clothing. This is according to Bamidbar 15:38. According to the words written in the Hebrew Bible or Torah, with the leadership of Shulchan Aruch or known as the Talmudic Sages in the previews years requires the people of Israel to create their own tzitzit that has lishma or intent. This is only because the intent or lishma is created for the use of the tzitzit’s mitzvah.

What is Lishma?

If you have doubts about the meaning of intent or lishma on the tzitzit strings, it is the mind’s capacity wherein a certain person has knowledge about his or her wants and needs and these wants and needs have its corresponding consequences in their lives. This is defined by Barron’s Law Dictionary.

The Biblical Commandments and Tying Tzitzit

According to the Bemidbar 15:37-38 in the Hebrew Bible of the Israelites, the God has spoken to Moshe saying that, Moshe should talk to the children of Israel about binding them from their generation to another generation through creating their own tzitzit and be placed in the corners of their garments or clothing. The string of the tzitzit should be in the shade of color blue.

Tying Tzitzit and the Number of Strings

The Rishonim has several opinions about the right number of blue and white strings the people in Israel should use.

Tosafot and Rashi

In this opinion, the tzitzit must have two full strings. And the four of the eight strings must be the so-called tekhelet.

Aruch and Raavad

According to the Sifre written in Shelach, the one full string of tzitzit must be folded and will give you two of eight strings and also be called the tekhelet.

Rambam

When half of a single string is folded, it will have one of the eight different strings. And this one of the eight strings will be called as the tekhelet. This third opinion of Rishonim about the number of strings in the tzitzit have knowledge about the different manners, the first one is you should place the strings in the corners of your clothing, and it must be composed with the strings in the color of white and blue. The so-called windings in the tzitzit white strings are the so-called tekhelet.

Can Any Kind of String be made as a Tzitzit String?

For instance, you went to your string company and clicked the start button to start the machine for work. When you already finished your work, you concluded that you have done 13,000 of strings and you only deliver 12,000 of strings in a certain yo-yo company. You have 3,000 surpluses of the strings you have made. The question is, is it okay for you to create the surplus strings as a tzitzit string? The answer will be definitely no. You can’t use these surplus strings to be used as your tzitzit strings because with is not created with the presence of intent and can’t be the mitzvah.

And on the other day, before you start the working machine, you say these words aloud “The strings I will create this day are for the tzitzit’s mitzvah.” You also have the intent to make the tzitzit strings correctly. But the machine you have used today is the machine you also used yesterday, the question will be, does the intent you make is enough to make these strings suitable to be the tzitzit strings?

The possible answer will be no, this is only because the strings for the tzitzit should always be handmade. The handmade tzitzit strings are usually known as the avodat yad, which means made by hands. But there are some researches such as the halachic decisions or the poskim, there is some initial intent that is suitable to be made as the tzitzit strings, that is why a machine might also be suitable on making the tzitzit strings.

Remember

Keep in your mind that there will be no things just like the machine that can tie the strings of the tzitzit, and in halacha, the machine has no space to allow the machine to tie the tzitzit strings. This is because the strings of the tzitzit must be tied by the hands. There are also Christians who are knowledgeable about the mitzvahs wrote in the Torah, they are being called as the Messianic Jews, wherein they will frequently use the pre-tied tzitzit strings. This kind of tzitzit strings is usually located at their shirt or being attached at their belts. But this opinion explicit the opinions written in halacha and it is not be considered as the Tzitzit tying with Tekelet.

How to Tie a Tzitzit String in the Yemenite Tradition

To tie a tzitzit string in the Yemenite Tradition, you are in need to hold in your hands the tekhelet and the tzitzit. You should also move the tekhelet at the left side of the tzitzit and put it under the second string of the tzitzit, but the strings must not be lower than the location of chulya. Repeat this step for about three more times, by that, you will now have three loose twists of tzitzit strings that is not lower than the position of chulya in the tekhelet. Now you can now align these strings to the other strings, and you are now completely done tying the tzitzit strings in the Yemenite Tradition.
